All appropriations are in 2024-prices. Since the publication in 2024, the statistic has had 'Research reserve funds' added as a separate line under both socio-economic objectives and sectors. For the current year, the entire budget allocation for research purposes was not distributed at the time of collection, and as a result, a portion will appear under the Research reserve funds. The Research reserve funds were not fully allocated in 2025, 2026, and 2027 when the data was collected. A new distribution on socio-economic objectives for the higher education sector was implemented in 2012; see also footnote to foubud1.
